Week 12
Week 12
How big is baby: The baby is the size of a lime!! I can't believe how big it's getting so quickly!
What's going on with baby this week: The reflexes are developing. The baby is beginning to squirm in response to my belly being touched. I absolutely can not wait to feel this baby move! The intestines are starting to move from the umbilical cord to the abdomen.
Exciting news: I've finally been able to begin telling some of the people I work with! Only a few more people to tell before our news is completely out in the open... hooray!
Look at that belly: Yep, I'm finally starting to feel like that belly of mine looks like a baby bump and not a lot of fat! No pants or skirts fit. The belly band helps a little when I wear pants {when it's not too scorching hot out!} but I've been wearing dresses as much as possible. I finally had to order some new bathing suits {one pieces} because those bikinis aren't looking so good anymore! I'm trying to decide if I want to buy clothes, pants in particular, in bigger sizes or just start looking at maternity clothes. I definitely didn't think I'd have to be buying maternity clothes this early...
Weight gain: I've gained a little over 7 pounds since the day I found out I was pregnant. I think more than I should have gained at this point, but hey, it could be worse! I am thankful for the increase in my boob size, though! Let's just say most of the weight has been gained there...! :)
What's happening this week:
-Another doctor appointment! We got to hear our little baby's heartbeat for a third time! The nurse was able to find the heartbeat really quickly with the doppler. It was 160. I also found out that my blood type is O+. I've always wondered about that. The doctor answered some questions we had and talked to us about the genetic testing that is available. We're still trying to figure out if we want to do any testing or not.
-On Friday we are heading up to the lake for the weekend sans dogs. Most of Kurt's family is going to be up there so it should be a fun time.

Week 11 {Catching Up}
It's Official...weekly baby bump pictures have begun!
Week 11
How big is baby: About the size of a fig.
Total weight gain: It continues to fluctuate, but way too much! I'm hungry allllll the time!
Food cravings: Fruit, fruit, and more fruit! I also love my peanut butter crackers.
Food aversions: Only thing that has sounded horrible the whole time is eggs.
Clothes: They are TIGHT! I don't own any pants that currently fit without my belly band. We've been cleaning out our closet {to make room for clothes that are in the baby's room} and I'm getting rid of a lot of things. There are many things that are being put away until after the baby is here with hopes of one day fitting into them again! At this point, I think it's too early to buy maternity pants, but I don't necessarily want to buy bigger size pants either...
What I'm looking forward to: We have our next doctor appointment in a week. I can't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat again! At our last appointment, we saw the baby and heard the heartbeat. That was a month ago.
Gender: We aren't going to find out. However, I took 4 silly gender predictor quizzes the other day for fun. Two said we're having a girl and two said we're having a boy. :) 50/50 chance!
What happened this week:
-I've continued my two time a week pilates schedule, as well as working out with my mom two times a week. Working out really helps keep me from feeling nauseous. I woke up at 5:45 Wednesday morning to go walking with my mom for an hour....overachiever!
-Nordstrom's Anniversary sale started Wednesday and you better believe my mom and I were there! Shopping with an uber skinny and stylish mom is really difficult when I've been gaining a lot of weight and don't feel great about my body!
-Friday is Julia's 6th birthday and we're taking her to Benihana for dinner. Her family birthday party is on Sunday. We can't wait to celebrate with her!
-Saturday will be the baby's first wedding! Peck and John are getting married and we can't wait to celebrate with them, as well as see our friends!

Weeks 9 & 10 {Catching Up}
Okay, we're almost caught up on the week updates here. After this, baby bump pictures will be around each week.
How big was baby: A grape and a kumquat {?!?!?}.
What's going on with baby: The embryo turned into a fetus. The baby is kicking up a storm {I wish I could feel it!} and many of the vital organs are beginning to function. I can't believe how much the baby is growing and developing each week!
What happened this week:
-Week 9, we finally had a week that wasn't so crazy busy. I was able to get some things done around the house. We went to dinner with Lauren and Tom and I was able to get a {much needed} full week of working out in.
-We went to pick up Kurt's new car on Thursday!! And I had to take my car in to get new tires put on. We spent wayyy too much money in one day! :)
-Friday we packed and got ready for our trip to South Carolina. We left later in the evening once everyone else was off work.
-Week 10, we were in SC the whole week. It was a great, relaxing vacation!

Week 14 {2nd Trimester!}
The beginning of my 2nd trimester. I can't believe it! While it seems like January is still very, very far away, thinking that the pregnancy is already a third behind us is kinda crazy. It doesn't seem like long ago that we found out about this baby. While I'm excited to welcome each new week to learn about what's going on with our baby, it makes me stop and realize how quickly time flies! We have A TON of things to do to get ready for this baby and I know I'll feel more pressured to get things done once fall comes. I had plans of getting so much done around the house in July since I wasn't working or tutoring. July has now come and gone and my to-do list for the house isn't one bit smaller! Oh the life of a very good procrastinator!
How big is baby: The baby is about 3.5 inches in length, about the size of a lemon. Wow!
What's going on with baby: Our baby is now making many facial expressions. He/she is squinting, frowning, grimacing, and possibly sucking his/her thumb! {None of that baby...bad habit!} The baby's kidneys are starting to produce urine and he/she is beginning to pee...yuck! The arms are now proportionate to the rest of the body.
Symptoms: I continue to {thankfully!!} feel great, but HELLO acne...ugh. This week has brought about a face full of wonderful spots. I've had to stop using almost all of my pre-pregnancy face items and feel helpless not being able to try to get rid of these zits. I did read about a pregnancy safe acne face wash that I'm thinking about buying. I've had a few stretching pains in my belly area. I'm thinking that this is probably the start of the round ligament pains I've been reading about. Other than that, I still don't really feel pregnant. However, I suppose that's a good thing! :)
Is my belly growing? I know it is, but it still looks like fat and not a cute baby bump. I'm still able to "suck in" a little of my belly. My belly always looks really good {small and almost like my pre-pregnancy belly} in the mornings and looks wayyyy bigger by the end of the day. I know this is still bloating and probably the food I'm eating, but I'm ready to look pregnant, not fat!
What's going on this week:
-On Sunday, Kurt and I did some yard work around the house. I wish I would have taken before and after pictures to show. While almost everything at our house is dead due to the drought and watering ban, the yard truly does look better now that things have been cut back and cleaned up! I needed a nap after all the heat and work outside. We headed downtown for our little date after we went to church. We ate at the bar at the JW and then walked over to White River State Park to listen to some good live music. It was a beautiful evening!
-I've been at school quite a bit this week trying to get things ready for the beginning of the year. I'm starting to get really excited about my new adventures in Kindergarten this year! I know I'm going to be absolutely exhausted once school begins. It's going to be difficult getting in bed early considering we've been staying up really, really late each night watching the Olympics...and I definitely don't plan on going to bed any earlier until they're over. :)
-Today is laundry/cleaning day at our house...YUCK! We're heading off to San Francisco tomorrow so lots needs to get finished around here before we leave.
-I'm worried about what in the world I'm going to pack for our trip. It looks like it's going to be pretty chilly there and I currently don't have many fall-ish clothes that fit! I'm a really bad packer and know that trying to pack many layers is going to simply lead to complete over-packing. It's always good to have outfit choices! :)
-I can't wait to be in CA and get to spend 5 days with Lauren and Jared!! Many trip updates to come!

Few Olympic Thoughts
We've been watching the Olympics nonstop since they started, and I absolutely love it! Totally worth staying up late. I've been thinking about a few things while watching...
* I love cheering on the USA and love watching swimming. However, I'm over hearing from Ryan Lochte. He's cocky and talks a big talk. I love how Michael Phelps keeps saying, "I let my swimming do the talking." Go Michael, beat Ryan...and everyone else! :)
* Being a gymnast for 12 or 13 years of my life makes me love watching the women's gymnastics. I get really nervous, but it makes me really wish I could be young again and at the gym. The first Olympic moment I remember is watching Kerri Strug at the '96 Olympics. I still get the chills watching. Go USA Women's team...we're watching right now!
* I'm really angry about the new gymnastic {and a few other sports, I think} rule about only the top 2 gymnasts making it to the individual all around. That means not all the top 24 athletes get to compete?!?!? How does that allow for the best all around gymnast to get gold?? Dumb.
* NBC - is it really necessary to have THIS many commercials? I could go to bed 2 hours earlier if you didn't have a commercial break every 3 minutes. We've almost caught up to live TV.
* So, so random, but I was thinking the other night that our baby will be three and a half the next time the summer Olympics is in Rio. Weird. Let's hope Baby W gets daddy's athletic skills and not mine!
Back to watching the Olympics. Go USA!

Week 8 (Catching Up)
How big was baby: A kidney bean!
What's going on with baby: Webbed fingers and toes are growing from the hands and feet. The tail is about gone! Baby is moving around, but I can't feel it yet.
Symptoms: The nausea and bloating continue getting a little better. I feel best when I snack all day and don't let my stomach get empty. My clothes are definitely getting tight! I don't have really any pants or many skirts that fit anymore!
What happened this week:
-We returned home from our long weekend away on Monday night.
-Wednesday we had our 8 week doctor appointment. We were there for a couple hours. We were given a ton of information, asked many questions, and best of all got another ultrasound!!! This time the baby looked like a baby, not a blob. The best, best, best part...we could hear AND SEE the baby's heartbeat! Our due date was confirmed. Baby W should be here sometime around January 27, 2013. :) Can't wait!
-We still had not had a chance to celebrate Father's Day with my dad. We had a gift for him and, of course, wanted to share the good news. Trying to fit into his crazy schedule was difficult. We were finally able to meet for dinner on Wednesday evening. We ate dinner at their house and gave my dad his gift, card, and pregnancy announcement. My parents are thrilled...let the shopping begin! :) We were so excited to tell everyone else, we came home late from my parents and addressed all of our cards so I could send them out Thursday morning.
-Thursday morning I went to the post office as soon as I could get there! I couldn't wait to get the announcements in the mail! That evening, we went over to Josh and Mer's to celebrate Josh's birthday {which we missed while we were in Key West.} Of course, we planned on telling them the good news that evening, too!
-Friday and Saturday was the Dave concert...the baby's first concert! We sat in the pavilion both nights. Both concerts were awesome!
It was a busy week around here. It felt great to be able to start telling people about the baby. We couldn't WAIT for people to start getting their cards in the mail! {People in Indy started getting their cards on Friday. It was fun hearing from everyone!}

Sunday Date Night
We spent yesterday getting some work done around the house, taking a nap, and going to church. We topped off the day by going on a little date. Kurt bought me tickets to the Florence & the Machine concert for our anniversary {the paper gift!}. We grabbed some dinner before heading off to White River State Park and enjoy the beautiful summer evening listening to live music. The concert was pretty good...a little short. By hey, we got home by 10:15 and were able to fit a couple hours of DVRed Olympics in before heading off to bed. Perfect.

Week 7 {Catching Up}
Week 7 was quite the busy week around here!
{Kurt's fathers day present...this baby sure does love his/her daddy!}
{Exploring Key West. The southernmost point in the US.}
How big was baby: Size of a blueberry, about a half inch long.
What's up with baby: Hands and feet were emerging. The brain is growing along with the appendix and pancreas.
How was I feeling: This week was a peak of nauseous, bloating, and having to pee a lot! While we were in Key West, I remember waking up around 5 times a night to go to the bathroom. Not much food sounded good, but eating made me feel better.
What was going on this week:
-On Monday, Kurt and I went to dinner for our 1st Anniversary. The food at Seasons 52 was delicious, even when I was feeling quite nauseous!
-Thursday we dropped the dogs off at Kurt's parent's house for them to stay for the weekend. We were so excited because we were able to tell his parents our good news! We tucked our announcement in his dad's father's day card. They had to keep it a secret for awhile!
-Early Friday morning, we headed off for Key West for the weekend. It was great to get away and spend some time together to celebrate our anniversary some more. I was excited to give Kurt a couple father's day presents of his own!
Cheers to many, many more years of adventures, celebrations, and making memories! I love you!

Week 6 {Catching Up}
We went to the doctor on Monday, June 4 for our first appointment. The technician took us into the room and explained what was going to happen. I could tell that she was not liking what she saw on the screen while she was doing the regular ultrasound. She said that the baby appeared to be younger than 8 weeks {which is typically when they first allow you to come in for an ultrasound} and that she needed to do a vaginal ultrasound to see the baby.
At that appointment, we were able to see our little blur of a baby and hear the heartbeat! We were thrilled. After doing some measurements on the baby, it looked like I was only 6 weeks along, not 9 like they thought. It all started clicking...that's why the pregnancy tests I took when I missed my period weren't positive...I was too early to be testing. So the whole entire time, I was in fact pregnant but must have ovulated later than I thought, causing me to be behind a couple weeks. Maybe if I could stop being impatient....!
Besides the fact that we were able to see our baby, the appointment was a disappointment. I was planning to switch doctors so I could stay at the hospital I like. Needless to say after that appointment, I made a quick decision to stay with my previous doctor no matter if I had to go to a different hospital or not!
Right after our appointment on Monday, I called up to Oliver's Twist {they did our wedding invitations} to have our baby announcements made. I absolutely couldn't wait to see them and definitely couldn't wait to send them out to everyone! This is how it turned out...love!
How I felt: I was feeling very tired and a little nauseous. All I wanted to do this week was eat, which helped me from feeling nauseous.
Sleep: Sleep was getting more difficult because I was up multiple times a night to go to the bathroom.
What happened this week:
-I was in a conference at school all week. It was difficult to concentrate!
-Tuesday night we went to tour St. Vincent Carmel hospital to see if we wanted to stay with my orignal doctor. I loved everything about the maternity ward of the hospital. On Wednesday, I called the "new" doctor's office and cancelled my appointments and called my original doctor to schedule my next appointment. I was feeling relieved already!
-We celebrated our first wedding anniversary over the weekend by staying at the Conrad. We went to Tastings {for Kurt to drink wine} and had fun people watching. When we got home from dinner there was champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for us in our room {like on our wedding night}. We ate the strawberries and are saving the champagne for our 2nd anniversary so I can drink it too! We brought our anniversary cake and ate it in bed while we watched the NBA playoffs! Of course, I was in bed early!

My Birthday Party
People started getting suspicious when I wasn't drinking, then was drinking, and then all of the sudden stopped drinking again. Bad decision. My birthday was on a Sunday this year. The day before, my mom, two sisters-in-law, and I threw a shower for my cousin, Kristin. My sister-in-law, Allison, organized the mimosa bar and immediately asked me if I wanted one when the party started. I told her no and drank my sweet tea for the afternoon. At some point during the shower, she looked at me and asked me "When are you due?" I calmly stated, "I'm not pregnant. I'm just not drinking because we're trying." She went on to ask if I wasn't going to be drinking at my birthday party later on that night. Mistake #2 from me- I told her no that I was going to be drinking non-alcoholic beer. I think she told the rest of my family that night who would have had no idea what I was drinking because I put it in a glass!!!
The birthday party was fun, except I was exhausted. I was so ready to get in bed since I had been up since 7am making food for the shower. Again, no one questioned me because it looked like I was drinking beer all night. Allison asked me a couple more times that night if I was pregnant. I continued to tell her no and even made up a story for her to stop asking me.
The next day, my sister-in-law, Quinn, was asking me about being pregnant. She said, "I'll be expecting an announcement in a couple weeks that you are!" Ugh, shouldn't have told them I was drinking N/A beer....
I couldn't wait for Monday because I knew we'd get to see our little baby on the ultrasound screen.

Nordiques Jersey
Here's a picture of that stinkin' cute jersey I was telling you about. I can't wait to take the baby to the rink to cheer on daddy in his/her hockey jersey. We'll just need to make sure baby has a Blackhawks jersey sometime soon!

Week 13
Week 13
One more week until the 2nd trimester...crazy!
How big is baby: The size of a medium shrimp.
What's going on with baby: The baby now has his/her own fingerprints...pretty cool! The size of the body is beginning to catch up with the size of the head.
How I'm feeling: I'm trying to fight off what feels like the beginning of a little bug, but other than that I'm feeling great. No nausea anymore and the bloating has gotten significantly better. I'm still pretty tired and take naps almost daily. It's been a blessing to be in the first trimester over my summer break because I've been sleeping in and napping. {Today I didn't wake up until 11...am I in college again?!?} I'm a little worried about my energy level once school gets back into full swing! I'm not waking up as often to pee at night. However, I continue to have CRAZY dreams each and every night. Using our white noise app at night really helps me stay asleep.
Grow belly, grow: I'm starting to enjoy watching my belly grow! It's definitely getting bigger. I really, really hope I don't gain too much weight! Maybe I should stop eating so much!
Fun things: My parents were in Quebec last week and brought us back some gifts. Kurt got a "10 Reasons Hockey is Better than Women" shirt, I got some fresh maple syrup, and the baby got the cutest Quebec Nordiques hockey jersey! I can't wait to see our little guy/girl in that jersey! My mom also bought us two outfits to take to the hospital with us, one for a girl and one for a boy. Which one will we use?!? Guess we'll have to wait until January to find out! My Godparents are so kind and got the baby a gift. My Godmother is a teacher and works at a book store. My library when I was young was fabulous thanks to her. Of course she would be the first one to buy books for the baby's library. They bought the baby Goodnight Moon with a mouse rattle and Hockey 123. We love them both and I dream of reading those books to my little baby soon.
What's going on this week:
-I need to get back into my weekly work out routine. I took some time off being at the lake and because I was feeling a little sick.
-We are going to tour the daycare at the JCC on Wednesday. We need to figure out what we're going to do with the baby next August ASAP.
-Thursday I'm going to lunch with my mom, Anne {from my dad's office}, and her daughter, Kelly.
-On Sunday, Kurt and I are going to the Florence and the Machine concert downtown. He bought me tickets for our anniversary. Should be a lot of fun!
-We are slowly but surely getting this house cleaned/organized. We need to get serious about finding furniture for the nursery, as well as a paint color and bedding.
-I can't wait...the Olympics start on Friday!
-I can't wait...the Olympics start on Friday!
-I hope to have our news on Facebook by the end of this week and start getting all these blog posts up...and start blogging about more than just the pregnancy!
*This is the update for this week. I'll be posting the updates I wrote for the weeks previous to this in the upcoming days.

We're Having a Baby!
I know I've totally abandoned this blog for a long, long time. I needed some major motivation to get me back on track -- some exciting things going on in our lives that are worth documenting! Pregnancy is something I've been so excited for for a long time and I knew I wanted to document everything. So, I'm back!! :) Hopefully for good this time and to share more than just my pregnancy.
I'm planning to post weekly Belly Bump photos with some things that have been happening each week. However, I wanted to go back a couple months and write all about the beginning of our pregnancy.
I'm planning to post weekly Belly Bump photos with some things that have been happening each week. However, I wanted to go back a couple months and write all about the beginning of our pregnancy.
How it all started:
Kurt and I decided to begin trying to get pregnant Spring 2012. After our spring break trip to Mexico with my parents, I went off the pill. I am really bad about keeping secrets, so most people knew that we were "trying." I tried hard to stop drinking, which gave people an immediate idea of what was going on. :) After a month passed, I decided to take a pregnancy test on the day I was supposed to get my period. Nothing. I waited a couple days and took another one. Nothing. I waited another week or so and took another one. Nothing.
At that point, I was really frustrated. If I wasn't pregnant and wasn't getting my period, that must mean I wasn't ovulating, right? So I decided I wasn't going to care so much and put so much pressure on getting pregnant. I decided to drink on the weekends again and just have a fun time! We began planning the lake weekend for Memorial Day, which included me organizing a keg of Summer Shandy. We also planned a birthday party for me at our house.
The week before Memorial Day, I felt like I was going to start my period. I was really crampy. I told Kurt about it and he thought I should take another pregnancy test just in case since we were planning on drinking quite a bit that weekend. I gave it a thought but quickly dismissed it thinking there was no way I was pregnant. Plus, I had used way too many pregnancy tests and had none left at home!
Kurt and the guys headed up to the lake Thursday afternoon. After school I went to work out with my mom and then we met my dad for dinner. I decided that I would stop by CVS on the way home and buy some more pregnancy tests just in case. I really thought I was just crazy for wasting more money! I came home and immediately went to take one. I had heard that when you really are pregnant and take a test, the pregnant results show up immediately...no waiting 3 minutes or whatever it says on the package! So I peed on the stick and BAM...immediately there were two pink lines. I freaked out. I can remember looking in the mirror at myself and saying "Holy Shit" over and over again. I couldn't believe it! I was shaking and called Kurt right away.
They had been up at the lake drinking for a couple hours at this point. I could hear them listening to music and chatting when I called Kurt. I told him he needed to walk away from the guys so I could tell him something. He was annoyed with me, but finally went away from them. I couldn't hold it in any longer. I told him, "I'm pregnant." I don't really remember his exact response but he was shocked. Happily shocked. But the first thoughts both of us were having were "how in the world are we going to hide this from everyone at the lake this weekend?!?!?!?"
I wasn't sure Kurt really believed me. I ended up taking all three pregnancy tests with me to the lake {in a baggie!} to show him that this was in fact legit! Before Mer and I left for the lake on Friday, I called my doctor to schedule my first appointment. They took down some information and according to the dates of my last period, they told me I was 7 weeks. I absolutely couldn't believe it!
Not one person questioned me at the lake that weekend. I made a few daiquiris {without alcohol} but other than that drank water the whole weekend. I think most people were too drunk to even notice the fact I wasn't drinking! It was difficult being up at the lake that weekend because all I wanted to do was talk to Kurt about it and read all about pregnancy. But we couldn't! We definitely didn't want anyone to know anything until for awhile. The next week and a half was torture trying to wait for the first appointment on June 4th.
